SPEAKER_00:

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the very first episode of Glamour Co. You're Looking Good, the podcast where we deep dive into all things hair, makeup, and beauty. Today, we're introducing a revolutionary product that's taking the beauty world by storm, Matthew James Hair Colour. If you are a hairstylist, makeup, or beauty professional, you're going to want to hear this. I am your host, Nicole, and today I have with me my partner in crime and beauty, Sheila. Hello, Sheila. Hello, Nicole. How are you going? I'm good. How are you? I'm good. You ready for this combo? I am. I'm pumped. Oh, cool. My hair's looking flat. Yeah. But really not in tune with today's discussion. But that's okay. It's something we can work on for future ones. But I'm really pumped about today. So I'm excited to hear what you have to say. Okay. Let's get going. Okay. Now, before we get stuck into it, I do like to do things a little bit differently by kicking off each episode with a little bit of an icebreaker. I do this with all my meetings at work as well. Okay. It makes things so much more interesting. And it causes conversation. That's what we like. We like conversation. And today is a brand ambassador. Who am I? Okay, go on. Are you good at these? Yes.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, yes. Yep.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay. Okay. I'll trust you. I trust you. So let's see whether you can get it. And obviously those listening today, hopefully they can get it as well. It is. I think it's pretty easy. I think it's pretty easy. I reckon you'll smash it. Okay, let's start. I'm an English actor. So she's an overachiever. She is an overachiever. Gee, I wonder who that sounds like. I can think of a few overachievers in my life. Yeah. One of them who's sitting across from me now. Oh, thank you. We do work hard, don't we? We do. We play hard too. We do play very hard. Okay, so I started my career at the age of 18 as a performer with the National Youth Theatre where I played Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra. I later joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and made my West End stage debut in 1975. So she's been around for a while.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay, 1975, good

SPEAKER_00:

year. Okay, yeah, narrows it down a little bit, doesn't it? Yeah, it's

SPEAKER_01:

not a young thing,

SPEAKER_00:

that's for sure. No, not 25. No. Not 41 like me. Not even 25. Like me.

SPEAKER_01:

Like 1975 is a good year. So she's 60 years in acting. All right.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay. All right. I'm getting a picture. You're getting there? Getting a picture? So I won the Academy Award for Best Actress for my portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the drama The Queen. And I also earned three British Academy Television Awards for Best Actress and two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Miniseries or Movie. In my roles as DCI Jane Tennyson in Prime Suspect.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay, alright, I think I figured it out.

SPEAKER_00:

I am a brand ambassador for L'Oreal's Worth It resume campaign and famously quoted, I have so many things to offer beyond my race, my body, my gender and my age. Who am I?

SPEAKER_01:

It has to be Helen Mirren. It is Helen Mirren. You nailed it. Because it was the Queen. There were two very British actresses that played the Queen. One was Queen Elizabeth, right? So one was Helen Mirren and the other one was Jane Doody Dench. But she wasn't ever in a prime suspect. She wasn't ever prime suspect in that TV show. So it had to be Helen Mirren. It was. But can I just say, I've loved her since I was six years old. Because she did this movie called Excalibur in 1981 where she was like this really young, hot sorceress with red hair.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm going to have to find that and watch it. Yes, it's a classic. Okay. Yeah. Do you think I like it? You know what I'm like. Do you think I like it?

SPEAKER_01:

It's of the time, so it is definitely 1981. But like when she comes on and comes down, like she walks downstairs and it's like, oh my gosh, she just looked amazing. And she's always looked amazing, don't you reckon? She does. As she's aged.

SPEAKER_00:

I think, and it's like a few male actors as well. As they age, they just get better.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. Yeah,

SPEAKER_00:

yeah. The

SPEAKER_01:

wrinkles, the hair, it

SPEAKER_00:

just defines them. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

But I love her. I mean, I love her. and mirror and how she does grey hair.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, me too. She makes it attractive, sexy and makes everyone want to have grey hair even if they haven't hit that age yet.

UNKNOWN:

I know.

SPEAKER_00:

Because I haven't even got my first grey hair yet. Oh my

SPEAKER_01:

gosh, I've got so many greys but I'm choosing to colour which is why I'm so intrigued by this product that we're going to talk about because I colour the greys.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, so well, I colour my normal natural hair colour. No,

SPEAKER_01:

but I don't even know what your original hair colour is to be honest with you. You don't?

SPEAKER_00:

It's awful. I will find a photo of when I was at school and I will send it to you because I have not had my natural hair color since I was in year nine. Far out. Nine. Year nine.

SPEAKER_01:

So like 31 years you've been coloring your hair. Yeah, pretty much.

SPEAKER_00:

Wow. Yeah. So I've been a million colors. Like I've had blonde. I've had black. I've even been black. Oh, really? Can you believe it? Yeah, it looked terrible.

SPEAKER_01:

You would have gone

SPEAKER_00:

like... I was very washed out and it was short. It wasn't like it was long black hair. It was short, like pixie cut black hair

SPEAKER_01:

yeah

SPEAKER_00:

I'll have to send you some photos

SPEAKER_01:

well I mean I've Filipino yeah I sound Australian but like Filipino is the background and so I've always had dark hair yeah and it's going grey and I'm choosing to colour at the moment

SPEAKER_00:

but I reckon with dark hair going grey it's not that bad I don't know I find lighter hair yeah I don't know I guess to be expected really like my girlfriend she has been grey since she was in year 8 or year 9 and I remember when she first got her first couple of sprouts and she was mortified because she was so young and now she's almost white if she did not colour her hair her hair would be almost white so she colours her hair religiously isn't

SPEAKER_01:

that interesting because like when in our I mean in Asian culture you dye you dye your hair because as soon as you start to get the greys through the black hair it does age you it ages

SPEAKER_00:

you yeah but your skin is so perfect you would get away with it you'd look 15 still

SPEAKER_01:

you look so young you could actually just grey the whole thing out, right? Yeah. So you just turn the whole thing grey. I've seen some women do that and look really good. Yeah. Yeah. I need to. See, hair colour. It's one of those things, eh? Everyone does it. It's self-expression.

SPEAKER_00:

It's not, I wouldn't say everyone does it, but majority of people do it because they make you feel, it makes you feel good. It makes you feel younger. It gives you, I don't know, a bit of sense of, I don't know, self, I guess. Yeah. Yeah. It's that

SPEAKER_01:

uniqueness because everyone's hair is different. It is.

SPEAKER_00:

And then as soon as you walk out of the salon, you feel like you look a million bucks. Yeah. I mean, I probably only look 10 bucks, but I'll walk out and I feel a million bucks until my husband goes, oh, you look the

SPEAKER_01:

same. That's what we're there for. Exactly right. And that's why we're going to talk about this

SPEAKER_00:

awesome product. Yeah. So we're going to get into it now and we're going to talk about this amazing, amazing product. So the star of the show today is the Matthew James Hybrid Coloring Cream. This isn't just any hair dye. So it's actually formulated with something called Eternatec. And trust me, this ingredient is a game changer for hair colour. Eterna Tech helps deliver an unprecedented colour experience providing superior uniformity of colour from root to tip. This means no more patchy results. I'm sure we've all been there. Just smooth, consistent colour throughout. And that's not all.

SPEAKER_01:

What else is there then? Are

SPEAKER_00:

you waiting for me to sell you something? No, I'm just joking. The

SPEAKER_01:

patchy results, you can tell when someone's done their own bottle job or when actually your colour is already just not sitting right.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, you can tell. Or when it hasn't been blended properly. Yes. Yeah, so, so true. Well, Eternatec also enhances the colour brilliance. So it makes your shades pop with beautiful shimmering reflects. Plus, if you're covering grey hair, like we were just talking about. Yeah, so if you're covering grey hair, you'll notice superior coverage without compromising the integrity of your hair. So it's gentle and effective.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, that's cool. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Everyone needs some of that. And speaking of longevity, the formula doesn't fade quickly either, like most products on the market. So Matthew James hair colour has been shown to reduce colour fading by up to 15%. Based on laboratory spectrophotometer test comparisons. So the colour stays vibrant for longer. That's cool. Because

SPEAKER_01:

you can always tell if the colour isn't great, it starts to fade straight away.

SPEAKER_00:

It does. Well, you saw my hair before Christmas when I went red.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes.

SPEAKER_00:

So my hairdresser was not happy with my choice in the first place to go red because I have trialed something similar before remember when I went that rose gold color yes yes and it was only using a toner so I didn't actually fully color my hair like put a full color in it was just a toner but it didn't stay in my hair even with the toning shampoo and things like that it just didn't stay like it lasted maybe a couple of days and when I said to her um I think I've decided to go red she looks at me and she said you are not going red and I'm like but please, I think I'd look really good red. And I did look good red. I really suited red because I've got freckles and pale skin and it really suited, it really did suit me. And I was like, please, please, please. She gave in. She gave me the red hair. It was like a kind of an approach that we had to take. So we went like that orange color. And then it got darker and darker over time. And then I ended up going the dark red, which I loved, but it literally lasted one wash. And it turned a pink. Like within that first week and that first wash, I remember we were in Vietnam. I didn't tell you this. We were in Vietnam. Yeah. And I hadn't washed my hair since I had my hair colored, like the red. And I had a shower when we got there because it was stinking hot. It would have been hot, yeah. And I swear, because it was so hot, the condensation was like running down my back and it was red because of the hair dye. So I jumped in the shower and I didn't even think of it, but they gave us white towels.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, no.

SPEAKER_00:

It would have looked like a crime

SPEAKER_01:

scene.

SPEAKER_00:

I thought. I thought it was bleeding from my head. It was the hair dye. It had literally, I swear, it was like the whole color had come out of my hair. And it just didn't look the same after that. So I don't know if it just didn't help with the humidity and the heat over there, but it did not last. So the fact that this is 15% better than the stuff I was probably using, or not I was using, but my hairdresser was using. Yeah, maybe if I had have used this product to begin with, it would have lasted a lot longer than a one wash. Yeah. I know that people have different types of like the density of their hair like my hair's not porous enough to hold color yeah hence why i'm now back blonde because i just can't my hair cannot hold color but other people they color their hair all the time and you want to have that vibrancy in your hair and

SPEAKER_01:

you want it to last

SPEAKER_00:

yes exactly especially if you're paying that amount of money you want it to last you don't want to have to keep going back every couple of weeks i don't know about you but as someone who regularly colors her hair well not me but my hairdresser do you prefer the packet hair color Like the stuff you get from Woolies or do you prefer the salon experience? What do you prefer? Oh,

SPEAKER_01:

mate, I don't think I've ever– I think I've done it once. During COVID, I was just getting sick of my grey hair and I just did a bottle job. Yeah, but that's COVID. That's different. You couldn't even go to the hairdresser. I know, but the thing is too, though, that was like I was going to– I decided to go grey then, but I just completely fell flat and got really depressed at how I looked because I hadn't gone to a salon. I'm definitely a salon person. I can't stand the mess. I'd rather have– The salon experience where you head back in the bowl, getting a massage, doing the shampoos, the conditioners,

SPEAKER_00:

the treatments. Oh, the treatments. Oh, they're so good.

SPEAKER_01:

The bubbly as you walk in or the coffee. The bubbly?

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. Gee whiz. I'm going to have to speak to my hairdresser. She's going to have to up a game. Well, mind you, I get a coffee and I get a chocolate cookie.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, there you go. Well, that's good too. And I get

SPEAKER_00:

gossip.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes, the goss. And hairdressers are like the most amazing business people because they just straddle everything. They also are counsellors. They're big sisters. They so are. Their aunts, their mothers. And even if they're male, they have exactly the same feminine energy, right?

SPEAKER_00:

They so do. You walk in there and they'll go, oh, I haven't seen you. for a little while like what's been going on how are the kids oh don't get me started on the kids oh so and so did this today also like it's so true because I think you just feel that level of comfort when you're in a hair salon chair I don't know what it is it's not like you go to the doctors and you're sitting across from your doctor oh how you been and then you start talking about you know complaining about your kids and your husband but it's like

SPEAKER_01:

sanctuary right so it is a safe and happy place like it's a happy space it is a very happy space and you're in there to get yourself to a point where you can kind of take on the world as you walk out. Yeah. Right? So you walk in and like I was walking like this, slumped shoulders. Yeah. Going, yeah, this is overdue. Yeah. Like, you know, I've got to look up. Sorry. Sorry for my regrowth. Yeah, you're apologizing already. I always apologize. Sorry for my regrowth. And then you come out of that place and you're just relaxed and you're ready to take on the world. I always time my trips to the salon with an event that's going to happen after. It's like a photo shoot or, you know, a big party or something that we've got to, you know, look our best for. And that's kind of how I

SPEAKER_00:

do it. That's what I do with makeup. Remember how we went to that event before December and you go, oh, your makeup looks really nice. And I'm like, yeah, because I got it professionally done. Because MAC had, because I needed to get more MAC makeup. So I decided to go and get my makeup done. So I got to redeem the product back that I needed. So yeah, I don't know, it works like that. Every

SPEAKER_01:

day basis. So I know we talk about beauty quite a bit and like how I'm taking pride in how we look and all that sort of stuff. My main thing is- As long as I've got hair and teeth, I'll be okay. I'm serious, as long as I've got hair and teeth, and it doesn't even have to be my own hair and teeth. As long as I've just got hair and teeth. But you know what I mean? Like, you know, I'm just hair and teeth. So hair is really important. Hair is important, but teeth, that got me.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't care if they're not my own. Excuse me, nan, can I borrow your falsies? No, but like hair, right? You've got to allow

SPEAKER_01:

for the fact that people's, my hair has been falling out. Like it fell out during COVID and after surgery.

SPEAKER_00:

That's stress though. That could be stress. It could be

SPEAKER_01:

stress too though, but it also is part of aging, I'm told, right? So it's one of those things that happens when you go through that, you know, that M word for women. Oh, menopause, that one. That one that, you know, that one that we are actually now talking about.

SPEAKER_00:

Yes. Yeah. We do talk about that a lot. Yeah. Like menopause, but yeah, my hair hasn't fallen out, but it did when I was pregnant. I did lose a fair bit of hair, which is, again, a very common thing. It's not menopausal, but it's all to do with your hormones. But when

SPEAKER_01:

your hair's thinning, that's when color actually starts to make a difference, a bigger difference. It does, yeah. Because then you can refresh it with color. You can use really good haircuts and stuff to make it, you know,

SPEAKER_00:

sink. Look amazing. Yeah. Okay, now let's talk about the variety. So the Matthew James Hair Color range offers 43 stunning shades and five different peroxides, which is obviously good for me considering I have peroxides. So whether you're looking for a natural look or something bold and vibrant like the red that we were talking about earlier, they've got you covered. And there's more. Oh, okay. Would you like some steak knives? No, not steak knives. These colored tubes are generously sized at 180 mils. That's three times larger than the industry standard. So you're getting incredible value with each and every tube. And who doesn't want value for money? I mean, isn't that what we're on the lookout for these days? more bang for your buck

SPEAKER_01:

well absolutely I mean I think my business hat on and you know the day job is advising business owners as a hair salon that's one of the biggest expenses you would have is your supplies yeah and if you can get a product that actually is better for the client and it's better in terms of the size and how much you can do with it then I reckon that's just going to mean that you'll save money oh you'll save heaps of money and you can preserve your margins with your clients you don't have to increase prices on them because you know product sizes are changing all that

SPEAKER_00:

sort of stuff and also your clients end up a lot happier with the product with the product yeah

SPEAKER_01:

absolutely so it's a win-win

SPEAKER_00:

it is it is a win-win i mean i told you earlier today about my terrible peroxide story so knowing that matthew james hair color has five different peroxides is good for me because you don't want to go down the path of what i did when i was in my early 20s and decided to pour a bottle of peroxide on my head basically and i literally killed my hair it was terrible i will show you a photo okay next time i see you It was horrendous. So those listening, please see your hairdresser. Don't do what I did and think it's easy. Because I think a lot of, especially younger people, I know when I was younger, I thought, why am I going to go and spend that money on a hair salon experience? But you don't get, you don't understand how much you actually get out of it. Oh yeah. You get the color, you get the interaction, you get the treatments, you get the head massages, you get the styling, the shampooing, the conditioning, you get every It's everything bundled up into one. It's not just getting your hair colored. Because I thought, oh, I can do it myself. Like, what's the big deal? So what did I do? Buy a peroxide and shove it on my head. And it was dreadful. We don't want to ever do that ever again. Well, the other thing is

SPEAKER_01:

too, I mean, if you actually do end up doing that, the only way to fix it is to go to a proper salon, to go to a professional person who can actually fix it for you. Yes. And then you've got the relationship to be able to go, all right, well, color. Slap me on the wrist. Well, color is actually going to be part of it. out of your life then and that particular salon that's got the range of different colours I mean I've got this dream of going purple you would so suit that okay so if Matthew James is a purple colour I'm definitely definitely you could you would so pull

SPEAKER_00:

that off but

SPEAKER_01:

I'd have to go like I'd have to dye

SPEAKER_00:

you'd have to go lighter so you'd have to go like it would take a couple of shades so when I was blonde to go the red colour that I was before Christmas it took about three or four goes at the hair salon to actually get to that colour so it'll be the same in reverse. So it'll take you a bit of time. So this is my third attempt of going back to my white blonde. I still have one or two sessions to go to get back to where it was before I went red. So it is a process, but I reckon you would so pull purple off. Oh, yes. And you can just turn around and say, no, guys, it's not a midlife crisis. Because purple, it's not! Because purple's your favorite color. So that's completely different.

SPEAKER_01:

So I think what I've got to go through is a process where I will let myself go gray and stop dying black.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

And then just let it go grey and then go purple. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. All right, cool. Just as long as it's not the purple rinse that the old ladies get. No, no, no,

SPEAKER_01:

no. It's ultraviolet, ultraviolet purple. Bright purple. Like Barney purple.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, Barney purple. We all know who Barney is. Or purple wiggle purple. Yeah, purple wiggle purple. That's much better than Barney. Love it. I could so say it. So next time, well, not next time you go gray, but when you do go fully gray, I'm never going to forget this conversation. And I'm going to actually replay this. So there's no excuses because you will have to go. And we'll have to check out Matthew James hair color range to make sure in that 43 stunning colors they have, they've got purple. They would so have purple. And here's another little thing, Sheila. Matthew James hair color is proudly made in Italy, a country known for its high quality beauty products. So you can be sure Bye. Bye. Bye.

SPEAKER_01:

Bye.

SPEAKER_00:

Now, how do you use it? For demi-permanent colors, mix at a one to two ratio. For permanent colors, it's a one to one and a half ratio. And for those super lift shades, mix at a one to two and a half ratio. It is that simple. If only everything else was that simple in life. But that

SPEAKER_01:

just proves why you can't just do a bottle job at home out of a packet. Because all of that stuff there, it all assumes that the hairdresser actually knows what it is that's right for you. Like whether you should be going permanent, whether you should be going demi or all that stuff,

SPEAKER_00:

right? Yeah, they would know. They would definitely know. And if you go to the same hairdresser anyway, I know for a fact that my hairdresser, she has a little book and she writes down everyone's ratios and colors and that's the whole point. That's a

SPEAKER_01:

professional.

SPEAKER_00:

That is a professional. You're right. They do know exactly what they're doing. Hence why you pay the money, you get the experience, they get the quality product and you look amazing when you walk out the door. Absolutely. Do you want to know the best part? These products are trade- Meaning they're sold exclusively to hair, makeup and beauty professionals at Glamour Co. And you can grab them either in store or have them delivered right to your door nationwide. So no matter where you are, the perfect colour is just a click away.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, that's even

SPEAKER_00:

better. It is, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. So as a business advisor, that's what you would want for your clients. And I've got a few hairdresser clients who actually would, this would actually just suit them.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. To a T. Because they can just go online and go, oh, yeah, I need that, that, that. that and that. I don't need it right now. So I'll just order it and then it'll come in next week in a big bulk package or whatever it is. Most of them would say I'll take all 43 colors because I'm sure someone will take purple. Oh, look at that. I've got someone for you, Sheila. She'll take purple.

SPEAKER_01:

It's custom ordering too, right? Because like you said, you've got regular clients. You're a regular at a specific hair salon. She profiles you already. She does. She knows when you're due in so she can actually just order on demand.

SPEAKER_00:

And she'll know exactly what I want.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

So if it's been like three months since I seen her, she's going to need a hell of a lot more product than just a little bit. She'll probably need a whole tube. But again, we'll leave that to the professionals because we just sample the products here, don't we? Just shove it on my head, make me look amazing and I'm happy. Make me look amazing. Make me look amazing. Make me look a million bucks. If you're ready to take your hair colour to the next level, don't wait. Try Matthew James hair colour today. For more information, visit Glamour Co or check out the links in the show notes. And that is it for today's episode of Glamour Co. You're looking good. Thank you for joining me on today's episode, Sheila. I will see you for the next installment. I know where you live. Well, I don't really know where you live, but I know thereabouts. And I'm going to have a look at these purple shades, actually. Yes, you are going to have all these purple shades. I actually went on to have a look last week to see what the amazing colours. Oh, cool. It makes me so jealous because you see so many people walking around with the bright pinks, the greens, the purples. My girlfriend used to have, she had mermaid hair. So she had all different types of colors in the second half of her hair.

SPEAKER_01:

It

SPEAKER_00:

looked so good on her. So it

SPEAKER_01:

looked like you just basically graduated down to different colors. Wow.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, it looked phenomenal. And her hairdresser is my hairdresser. So the way she blended it in, but it was just all those bright, amazing colors. And I'm like, if I turned up to work, I'd be looked at and judged. But it did look amazing. I mean, some people can pull it off. I don't think I could pull it off, but I'd Tell you what, I take my hat off to those that can do the bright colors like that because they're amazing. It'll be you next. We'll count down. Count down until Sheila goes all gray. All gray. So she can try the Matthew James purple. Yep. All right. We'll do it. Now be sure to tune in next month for more hair, beauty, and makeup product reviews, tips, and tricks. Until then, stay glamorous and keep coloring outside the lines.
